Building Financial Capability: A Planning Guide for Integrated Services
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families has released Building Financial Capability: A Planning Guide for Integrated Services, an interactive Guide for community-based organizations interested in integrating financial capability services into existing programs (e.g. housing, job training, or Head Start).
The 13 interactive tools in the Guide are grouped into four sections that walk organizations step-by-step through the process of developing an integration plan:
- Envisioning Clients’ Financial Capability — Identifying current circumstances and desired outcomes for clients (for youth-serving organizations, the specific needs and goals for youth are critical to completing this first section);
- Building the Team — Determining which financial capability services will help those clients move from the current circumstances to the desired outcomes;
- Moving Into Action — Determining how best to provide financial capability services—whether through referrals, partnerships, or in-house; and
- Making the Case — Gaining support from key stakeholders.
Building Financial Capability is a practical resource for organizations providing financial capability services for the first time as well as those who want to improve or expand existing efforts.
